Global Geopark Network

The Global Geoparks Network (GGN) was launched by UNESCO in 2004 and was based on the model of the European Network (EGN) created in 2000. It focused on the creation of regional networks.
In 2006, the Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) was created, which now includes 42 Geoparks.
2 Geoparks exist in North America (Canada), 2 exist in South America (Brazil and Uruguay).
1 single Geopark was established on the African continent (M'Goun Geopark, Morocco). 7/2015 data
UNESCO assumes the global secretariat of GGN.
GGN is a unique and active network that facilitates the pooling of resources among Geoparks, the exchange of experience and the establishment of international collaborative projects.
